About this Campaign

Update 11/30: This page, combined with the Boston Give Back event has raised over $1500 - double our goal - and enough to sponsor four girls in South Sudan next year! We're amazed by the generosity of our friends and family, but we'd like to keep going. $1825 will sponsor five girls. Can you help us get there?

It's that time of year again! Lauren and Sarah will be hosting a fundraiser for She's the First a not-for-profit that sponsors girls’ education in the developing world. They are firm believers in the idea that "the best way to fight poverty and extremism is to educate and empower women and girls.”

Last fall, we hosted our first She's the First Boston fundraiser. With the amazing and generous help of our friends, we raised over $700 and sent SEVEN girls to primary school in recently earthquake-torn Haiti. Check out the blog post written about our event on She's the First's blog here On the heels of an amazing event, we decided to vow to do the same event every year.

This year, we will be hosting a 'Thanksgiving' themed event. A sort of giving thanks by giving back event titled "She's The First: Boston Gives Back". We chose this year to fundraise for Project Education Sudan, which sponsors girls in primary school in South Sudan. Here are some quick facts about girls in South Sudan:
1. According to UNICEF, in South Sudan only 10 percent of girls 7-14 go to school (the lowest rate in the world), only 1 percent of girls finish primary school, and less than 1 percent graduate from high school.
2. In South Sudan, people live on less than 75 cents a day, making it one of the poorest countries in the world.
3. At the school, there are many eager, bright and talented girls who are unable to pay their school fees, including 110 orphans.
4. The students only eat two meals a day provided by the World Food Programme, for many of the students, their school uniform is the only clothing that they own.

It takes $365 to sponsor one girl for one full school year. These girls are in desperate need of help, and an education can be their ticket to a better life and a brighter future. Our goal will be to sponsor two girls, so that's $730. Let's all work together to make school a reality for girls who might not be there without our help.
